Evolutionary Design Studio is Incubating

I am in the process of developing a new learning environment for folks interested in practising evolutionary design, no matter whether you write the tests first, after, or not at all! 😱

What Is It?

Evolutionary Design Studio will (probably!) be a private online space for members to learn about and practise evolutionary design. There will (probably!) be:

  • video content
  • discussion threads
  • live chat
  • office hours
  • suggested exercises

Evolutionary Design simply means guiding the design to evolve over time, rather than trying to get it right the first time. If you want to practise TDD, you can! If you want to focus on refactoring legacy code, we can do that, too! All that matters is that you want to decrease the cost (measuring in time, money, and stress!) of changing design decisions safely and confidently. If you’re tired of being a prisoner of past choices, especially if you didn’t even get to make them, then the Evolutionary Design Studio will be for you!

What Does It Cost?

I haven’t settled on a price yet, but I expect this to be a monthly subscription with no up-front commitment. Most folks would probably join for 3-6 months before they felt like they had enough of what they need to feel comfortable practising on their own and using what they’re learning in their day job.

Since you never know how long you’ll need help, I won’t inflate the monthly price just to trick you into buying a yearly membership. You never have to commit to more than one month at a time.

It wouldn’t surprise me for some folks to come back a second time for a few months. And even a third. Each time, they’re probably come back for a shorter period of time, depending on what exactly they need help with.

I might even offer one-time Office Hours guest passes to past members who only need one question answered or are looking for a one-time code review. These are the parts that I’m thinking about, but haven’t completely worked out yet.

When Can I Join?

I haven’t chosen a launch date yet, but you can sign up to be notified when the community launches. When you sign up, you’ll also have the chance to tell me what kinds of information and services would help you, so that I have even better ideas what to offer as part of the Studio!
